Through an award from the DOE Office of Science’s Early Career Research Program, ORNL quantitative geneticist Wellington Muchero will be working with willow, a biofuel feedstock and an emerging keystone species colonization land exposed by receding permafrost in the warming arctic region, to identify and characterize host genetic factors that allow microbes to evade defense mechanisms and establish a functional presence inside the plants. Understanding these molecular dynamics presents a unique opportunity to couple growth-promoting microbes with willow to increase carbon sequestration in the vulnerable arctic region.
In June 2016 the Minister for Land Information, Louise Upston, hosted investment screening workshops in Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland. The workshops had three objectives: to explain changes to the overseas investment regime that will mean the Overseas Investment Office can assess applications more promptly; to explain to those working in the system what they can do to help the OIO process applications in a timely fashion; and to hear what else the OIO might do to further improve the regime. At the workshops the Minister delivered an opening speech and former LINZ Chief Executive Peter Mersi presented on the investment screening process. Here is the Minister’s speech and Mr Mersi’s presentation at the Auckland workshop on 21 June 2016.

As training moves to more digital formats, it's colliding with new realities in learners' jobs, behaviours, habits, and preferences. Today's employees are overwhelmed, distracted, and impatient. Flexibility in where and how they learn is increasingly important. They want to learn from their peers and managers as much as from experts. And they are taking more control over their own development. Modern learning design needs to be effective, relevant and intuitive, delivered to the channels your learners use, when they need it (not just in case). During this presentation, we will discuss the behavioural science principles underpinning modern UX design, and illustrate how these principles have been implemented with a few case studies of work done by Kineo. Presented during TechWeekNZ 2018 in...
